SIGNATURE WORKSHOP
Training Leaders to Recognize the Signals Before Employees Leave
Attention Is Retention is a hands-on working session where leaders practice reading the signals of disengagement and holding the conversations that re-engage people, before the resignation letter gets written.
Were there really no signs?
Or were the signs overlooked?
Ask any room of managers how many have been surprised by a resignation and nearly every hand goes up. Ask whether there were truly no signs, and the room goes quiet.
Retention isn't just an HR issue. It's an awareness issue. And awareness is a trainable skill. You cannot notice what you've never trained yourself to see, and that is exactly what this workshop trains.
What the Audience Experiences from Theresa’s Workshops
Read the Resignation Timeline. Leaders learn the five phases employees move through before they quit (Doubt, Emotional Withdrawal, Mental Exit, Job Search, Resignation) and identify where their own people might be right now.
Spot the Four Signals. Energy, Voice, Meaning, and Ownership. Leaders work through real scenarios and learn to identify which phase an employee is in, which signals are present, and what conversation needs to happen.
Find their blind spots. Busyness. Confirmation bias. Mistaking silence for satisfaction. Overlooking the reliable high performer. Leaders confront the specific reasons good managers miss obvious signals.
Practice curiosity before conclusions. In the Conversation Lab, leaders role-play the shift from judgment ("she's disengaged") to observation ("I've noticed you've seemed different lately. How are you doing?"). They leave having actually said the words out loud.
Build the Awareness Habit. A simple weekly reflection practice: Who has changed? Who has gone quiet? Who have I unintentionally ignored? Who have I thanked? Who have I truly listened to?
A practical tool for monitoring Energy, Voice, Meaning, and Ownership during regular one-on-ones, so disengagement gets caught in conversation, not in an exit interview.
Optional add-on: motivational assessments through Employee Insight give leaders an objective read on what actually drives each person on their team.
Every Leader Leaves With the Retention Scorecard
Attention creates connection.
Connection creates trust.
Trust creates retention.
1 in 3 younger workers leave within their first 90 days, and employees who feel ignored by their manager are 2x as likely to leave. (Paycor)
The manager relationship decides who stays. This workshop makes that relationship a skill instead of an accident.
